Ewa Wojciak (No Magazine, Beatnik Bookster) has organized the second incarnation of the historic independent publishing event Shelf Life. Her and fellow organizers, artists Yuri Ogita and Meagan Chin, join Brodie to discuss early Los Angeles punk, DIY and zine culture, street art, the constant struggle between underground integrity and commercialization to expand audiences, NOMAG and the work of Wojciak’s late partner Bruce Kalberg (a.k.a. Bruce Caen, author of Sub-Hollywood), and the participants, workshops, and speakers at Shelf Life 2, happening this Saturday, March 24, on the USC campus. This episode also features the music of Redd Kross.
